OTHERWORLD

"OTHERWORLD is so much more than just the best virtual reality arcade London has to offer, it's a free roam VR island paradise with portals to sixteen unique virtual reality experiences, accessed only from a railway arch in Haggerston, East London.

When it's time to take off, you and your friends will each step into your own sense-hacking immersion room, a private space which combines a leading VR headset with dynamic heat, wind and rumble effects for maximum immersion."

My primary role whilst working on the Otherworld was VR development for the experience. The project was built in UE4 with a team of three, comprising of myself and two artists.

Along with UE4 development, I was also responsible for hardware installation and configuring the immersion rooms which feature different '4D' effects.

The Otherworld is a VR experience for up to 14 simultaneous players that allow you to explore and interact with a vibrant, scenic island.
Players can locate virtual representations of the immersion rooms which can be used to launch various third party experiences, similar to how a real life arcade functions.

Using Socket.io integrated with DMX512 enabled the Otherworld to communicate with each individual immersion room, allowing for the simulation of heat and wind.

Users can move their head in between shadows and sunlight which would toggle on and off the heat lamps in the direction of the sun, which gave the powerful illusion of real sunlight.
